how to lose weight fastSo, you’re trying to fit into that new dress or get that beach body for the summer season.  You gotta lose weight, and fast.  (Pun intended)  There are so many diets out there how do you know which ones will actually help you reach your goal quickly.  I’ve compiled a couple tips that will show you how to lose weight fast.

Cut Starches and Sugars

In order to lose weight fast, one of the most important things is to cut back on sugars and starches (carbs).  These foods stimulate insulin secretion the most.  And, if you don’t know already, insulin is the main fat storage hormone in your body.  When insulin levels goes down, the body starts burning fats instead of carbs.  Another great benefit of low insulin is that your kidneys will shed extra water and sodium out of your body.  This also reduces bloating  and unnecessary water weight.  You can lose up to 10 pounds (sometimes more) in the first week of eating this way.  You will shed both body fat and water weight.




Hit the Gym at least 3 Times per Week

Diet and exercise will be the best combination of activities to help lose weight fast.  You don’t have to exercise to lose weight quickly, but it helps to accelerate your goal.  One of the best options is to go to hit the gym 3-4 times a week.  I know it sounds weird, but you should lift weights, but trust me it will work.  Start with a warm up on the treadmill or stairstepper, lift weights, then finish with a good stretch.  If you’re new to the gym or need some help, ask a trainer for some direction and guidance.  By lifting weights, you will burn calories which stops your metabolism from slowing down. This tends to be a common side effect of losing weight.  Studies on lower carbohydrate diets show that you can even gain lean muscle while shedding significant amounts of body fat.  If lifting weights is a scary proposition or simply is not an option for you, then do some cardio workouts like running, jogging, swimming, cycling or walking.

Consume Protein, Good Fats and Veggies

Starving is not a good way to reach your fast weight loss goals.  You should actually eat to lose weight.  Each meal should have a protein, a “good” fat source and lower carbohydrate vegetables. If you structure your meals this way it will  bring your carb intake into the recommended range of 20-50 grams per day.  The good fats include things like olive oil, avacaddos, and nuts.  To get more bang for your buck eat the deep color veggies like broccoli, kale, peppers, and lettuce.  If it is a pretty color at the grocery, put it in your cart.

Hydrate

Most of us drink sodas and sports drinks without thinking about the impact on our body.  Coffees with whipped cream and other creamers are also very popular.  Alcohol is also a popular drink for many.  These drinks can prevent us from losing weight.  In fact, they can increase weight gain.  A quick and simple solution is to monitor what you’re drinking. For a few days write down everything you put in your mouth.  This will help with your food consumption as well.  If you are drinking a lot of sodas or fruit drinks that can add unnecessary calories to your diet.  You’ve heard the old addage, “don’t drink your calories.”  This is true for just about every beverage out there.  The simple solution is to reduce and replace. Reduce your high caloric drinks like sodas, expensive coffees, and alcohol and replace them with water.  Drink a lot of water.  This simple switch can help you shed more weight quickly.  It’s also a healthy way to keep your body hydrated.
