Jabra Sport Pace Wireless Bluetooth Earbuds Review

jabra sport wireless bluetooth earbuds

Over the years I have used many devices to listen to audiobooks, podcasts, and music while running. Listening to something other than my own gasping and heavy breathing has been the way that I have always trained for marathons.  It gets my mind off the task at hand, and distracts from the pain experienced from the constant pavement pounding. One of the biggest problems with listening to something while running is the cord. Up until just about a decade ago, there was no alternative to running with wired headphones. Today there are many opportunities to “cut the cord” and run wirelessly.  I will be reviewing the different technologies out there in upcoming posts. Today is Jabra Sport Pace Wireless Bluetooth Earbuds. Be sure to check back for reviews.

Unbiased review process for Jabra Sport Pace Wireless Bluetooth Earbuds

To help you make an informed decision when shopping for headphones, I’ll evaluate headphones on the following criteria: comfort, design, overall performance and value.

I will use an unbiased and rigorous review process, comparing similar products by fit, features and pricing.

I will test over the course of a week for generally about 2 hours at a time.  I’ll be evaluating fit comfort, quality of audio listening to different genres of music and spoken word, and ease of use.

Features tested are things like noise cancelling, Bluetooth and longevity of battery life. Since this is a site dedicated to runners, I’ll test to see how they stand up to different workouts, running and cross training, evaluating both how securely they fit while on a run and how well they handle ambient noise from things like treadmills, spinning cycles and other gym machines.

Today I am reviewing the Jabra Sport Pace Wireless Bluetooth Earbuds.

I ordered the product on Amazon.com because I love Amazon, but there are many other retailers that sell this product.  Included in the packaging are the earbuds, different ear gels for different sized ears, USB cord for charging, and instruction booklet.

Design and comfort

The earbuds have a minimalist design, are lightweight and fit great inside my ear, with the earpiece fitting snuggly behind the ear.  There is only one button on the side of the earpiece to access the mobile app (not tested), with the volume buttons located on the cord.  I tested these while running outside, on the treadmill, on stationary bike as well as lifting weights at the gym and the fit remained intact throughout.  The earbuds stayed in my ear and the earpiece remained around my ear even when sweaty during prolonged exercise.  The cord does get sweaty and tended to stick to my neck, but overall it wasn’t a big annoyance.

Quality of audio for the Jabra Sport Pace Wireless Bluetooth Earbuds

Overall the quality was great across many different genres of music and spoken word. I tested audiobooks using the Audible app.

Tony Robins' Money: Master the Game and it clear and crisp with no background noise

For bass:

  • Hideho by Tropkillaz
  • Loud by Tech N9ne both had great sound.

For guitar I listened to:

  • a live version of Lie in our Graves by Dave Matthews featuring Tim Reynolds
  • Wish you Were Here by Pink Floyd.

Both had great crisp true guitar and vocal sound.

Noise Cancelling

When the earbuds are in and the tunes are crankin' there's very little outside noise interference. And they cancel outside/background noise very well.

Setting up Bluetooth on my iPhone was extremely easy, and I would assume the same for any other smart phone or media player out there. In tests I had my earbuds connected to my phone which was in my pocket or in my hand, in which case the Bluetooth performs extremely well.  In tests I found that the Bluetooth signal is strong up to about 35 feet, at which time there is some crackling and by 60 feet the Bluetooth disconnects.

Battery life

Jabra claims a 5 hour battery life and in my tests I found this to be the case. And when the battery is low, there is a voice prompt letting you know when to plug in to charge. So, I would plug it in before bed. And they would be fully charged for my morning run.

I have seen Jabra Sport Pace Wireless Bluetooth Earbuds listed for sale on a number of different sites with price ranging from $39 for refurbished model to the top end of around $70 for a new model.  Price fluctuations depend on the site and color; blue, yellow or red.

Overall performance for the Jabra Sport Pace Wireless Bluetooth Earbuds

The performance of the Jabra Sport Pace Wireless Bluetooth Earbuds was excellent. Easy to set up, long battery life, good sound quality, comfortable design make for a great purchase. I think you'll be very pleased.
